Overview
This wooden butter churn was used to agitate cream and churn it into butter. A metal handle is attached to wooden paddles inside the barrel, and there is a square-shaped opening at the top with a flush-lying lid. This allows the operator to check whether or not the cream has come to butter and separated from the buttermilk. The manufacturers' name - Hall Brothers Co. - is stencilled in red on one side, and on the other side is 'No. 3 Improved.' There is a hole at the base of the barrel stoppered with a cork.
