Overview

Oval form (Trezion) is from a group of bronze sculptures inspired by the rocky coastline of Land’s End, England.

Barbara Hepworth began working with bronze late in her career. This strong but malleable material allowed her to create large, open-formed sculptures that invite us to participate in them – as if we were seaside explorers picking our way around a rocky headland.

In 1971, Hepworth wrote, ‘You want to go in and out as you look at a sculpture like Trezion ... Maybe it’s not big enough to do this, but you don’t need to be physically entangled if you’ve got a pair of hands. If you feel something, you know what the experience is.’
