New Zealand English
The subject of the work is New Zealand English. All the words are from The Dictionary of New Zealand English (1997), edited by Harry Orsman. The work's title refers to both Aotearoa (the Māori for New Zealand, literally 'the land of the long white cloud') and the shifting, cloud-like qualities of language.
John Reynolds comments that 'It's a work that reflects New Zealand's connection to the community of English speaking nations. At the same time it particularises what is local and regional about our language through a particular set of vocal tics.' (Art News, Spring 2006)
