Overview

An acid-resistant black or dark-colored volcanic glass; it is noted for its lustre and curved, shiny surfaces when fractured. It is used for making jewelry, arrowheads, and art objects; named after Obsius who supposedly discovered it. Obsidian changes into pumice when it is melted.
