Overview

Curriculum Vitae’s, correspondence, awards, certificates and other paper ephemera pertaining to Liz Mitchell’s career in fashion and costume design.

This includes various versions of Liz Mitchell’s C.V, ranging from the early 1980 through to her design portfolio of c 2007.

Liz Mitchell is a leading New Zealand designer with an extensive history in both costume and fashion design. This series documents her career in theatre and television costume design; fashion design and the establishment of her business Liz Mitchell Design Ltd.

The series summarises her involvement with theatre costume and set design for Mercury Theatre (1982-1984 period); Theatre Corporate 1979; and other freelance design projects that formed the early development of Liz Mitchell’s theatre design career. Her contributions as Senior Costume Designer at Television New Zealand with the television series “Gloss”, “Seekers” and “Marlin Bay” for South Pacific Pictures. Included are various certificates, awards and nominations for Liz Mitchell’s entries into competitions such as Benson & Hedges Fashion Design Awards, which ran annually from the late 1970s through to the 1990s, applications for grants to the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council New Zealand, to further develop her design career and her investiture as Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2005 New Year Honours.
