Jersey

Comprises Jersey island and several smaller islands; inhabited in Paleolithic times, and had Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements; ruled by diocese of Coutances in the 11th century, by Norman landowners in the 12th century; became politically separate from Normandy in 1204; official language is French, though English and a Norman-French patois are also spoken.
