Overview
Sat. Jan. 1.
Rain fell during night, so haymaking off. I rode up to North Block - moved ewes + lambs from Top to 100ac[re] p[addock]. Found a 4-tooth ewe dead on 100 ac. p., also a big lamb. Moved ewes + lambs from Mill p. to Leighton p. + 8 rams from Ram p. to Mill p.

At 3 pm continued cutting fern on terrace above Mill swamp. At 4.30 to my surprise + delight, Maud + Viv arrived on horseback so we had afternoon tea at whare + had a look around. Maud was pleased with the way I had done up the whare. Signs of a big flood in river + creeks some time recently - Ram p. fence nearly undermined, huge masses of drift timber, creek just inside entrance gate diverted on to my flat by the great masses of gravel washed down on to Gladstone Road. My ewes + lambs are looking fairly well + there is plenty of grass - knee-deep on Stuckey's Side of Mill p. In evening Maud played piano to Viv, Clif + I - her hands on the keyboard looking so pretty - she was wearing lovely lace cuffs + the whole effect was beautiful.
