Overview
In December 2013, four Te Papa Science staff completed a 15 day multidisciplinary field study on the Snares Islands/Tini Heke.
The vascular flora (ferns and flowering plants) of the Snares Islands is limited, at only 22 species (including one hybrid Poa).
Vegetation communities on the Snares consist of five main types: forest (c.50-60% cover), tussock grassland (c.25-30%), shrubland (c.10%), herbfields (c.<1%) and herbaceous/turf seepage communities (c.1%).
One component of the expedition was photographing all flowering plants and ferns. Collecting efforts were focused around byrophytes and lichens and some of these were also photographed.
Images are available, through the below links, for flowering plants, ferns, and bryophytes & lichens.
